Explore the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve located at the heart of the Amazon Rainforest during your stay in Uakari Lodge. This unique lodge consists of five floating bungalows, making it a great location to view the flooding of the forest during the rainy season. Fortunately the floods won't prevent you from exploring this region since the lodge provides canoe tours through the forest during this season.
The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is the largest protected flooded forest in the world. While exploring this rich ecosystem, you will be able to see many animals such as the red-faced white uakari monkey and the black faced squirrel monkey.

Community
Uakari Lodge is a community based tourism initiative and by staying with them you contribute to supporting community development projects. In addition, most of the employees of Uakari Lodge are from the riverine communities. In order to prevent the local community from growing too dependent on tourism, they promote a working rotation system, where each employee works ten days month and then return to their homes. By doing this, the local communities can continue pursuing other activities.

Environment
Uakari Lodge consists of several sustainable floating bungalows which perfectly adapts to both the rainy seasons and dry seasons. The bungalows are powered by solar energy and rain water is collected and kept. The tiles they use for the flooring was made using recycled PET bottles. Their food is also made using seasonal and local ingredients. In addition, Uakari Lodge creates activities that promote the conservation of natural resources in the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve.
