The Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge is a vibrant community-owned project run by the local Sotho community, the Batlokoa.
The Batlokoa community is comprised of Sotho-Tswana peoples who have inhabited this area since the 19th century. Known for their kindness, the Batlokoa welcome hikers, climbers and nature lovers to get to know their culture and backyard.
They invite you to hike the foothills, visit the endangered bearded vultures, and interact with local traders while you stay in their beautiful mountainside chalets.

Witsieshoek is owned by the local community, and employment is prioritized locally. The Lodge also supports local small business operators who offer adventure activities in the area.

Environment
Witsieshoek provides a safe feeding site for the endangered Bearded Vultures that live in the area. The Lodge is in a Transfrontier Conservation Area, and has a low-impact footprint on the surrounding area. Guests are offered outdoor activities like hiking and rock climbing.

Culture
Witsieshoek is run by the local Sotho people, and their traditions of dress and decor are spread through the Lodge. In addition, 1% of accommodation turnover is given annually to the TFPD Foundation which supports local charity requirements and offers educational fund support.
