Explore the local communities of Sao Paulo and meet the leaders who are striving to make a change in their communities during your tour with Vivejar. You will meet and speak with the leaders of two organizations; Ferrugem and Casa EcoActiva. You will also be able to take part in any activities they have during your visit in order to give back to the community.
After a boat ride with local fishermen, you will be take to Sitio Paiquere, where you will be able to bird watch or walk on any of the trails in the area.
8:00AM: You will meet your guide at the train station and he will give you a short explanation on what you will do for the day. You will get on to the train and head to Grajau Station.
9:30AM: You will be welcomed in Meninos da Billings by the founder of Ferrugem. By using canoeing to access the dam, they are trying to bring the cultural identity of the local residents, especially among younger generations.
12:00PM: You will now get on the local boats and cross the dam. You will be guided by local fishermen to Borore Island.
1:00PM: You will land at Sitio Paiquere, also known as Ninhal das Garcas, where heron birds gather every year to reproduce. You will also be able to visit the first certified organic garden in the city of Sao Paulo and eat a delicious lunch prepared with local organic ingredients. During your visit, you will be able to talk with Ms. Tomie, who manages the garden.
2:30PM: After lunch, you will visit Casa EcoActiva, a local initiative that hosts art, graphite, permaculture, and educate the local community about the environment. They were founded by a group of young people to promote agroecology, cultural activities, and local development. You will be able to meet the leaders of the movement and learn more about their mission.
3:00PM: Next, you will be able to contribute to some of the initiatives EcoActiva organizes. This activity depends on what the organization is working on during your visit but it will be a great opportunity to get a better understanding of sustainability efforts that are being made in big cities like Sao Paulo.
4:30PM: Lastly, you will be able to take part in a live art show that are common in this suburb. You will participate in a art/music/poetry circle before you leave.
5:30PM: You will return to Grajau Station.
