Get a new perspective on the local communities of Rio de Janeiro! You will visit Morro da Babilonia and the Favela Organica project to see how there is abundance, creativity and social innovation where society and the media only want to see problems. You will visit their gardens along with founder Regina Tchelly where you'll learn about their work to stop food waste and join in a Brazilian cooking class! After eating the delicious lunch that you prepare together, you will spend the afternoon helping to maintain a local communal garden and exploring the community with a local guide.
9:00 AM: You will arrive in Morro da Babilonia, which is a neighborhood located in Rio de Janeiro. From here you will have beautiful views of Copacabana, Botafogo, Urca, and Guanabara Bay districts.
9:30 AM: You will head to the Headquarters of the Organic Favela where you will have a chat with Regina Tchelly.
10:30 AM: You will learn to cook a delicious meal while working and engaging with the idea of preventing food waste.
12:30 PM: Next you will be able to enjoy the food you have made.
2:00 PM: You will have the opportunity to contribute to a communal garden by taking part in planting and mainting the garden.
4:00 PM: You will be led by a community leader to a favela and you will learn about the daily challenges the people living there face. You will also learn about how the community is embracing a more sustainable lifestyle through the use of renewable energy and organic gardens. Lastly, you will arrive at Southern Rio de Janeiro where you will have beautiful views of Rio de Janeiro and the sunset.
5:30 PM: You will return to Praia do Leme

These community-based tours will ensure that you have an authentic experience with the local communities you visit. You will be able to learn how to make traditional Brazilian meals from local people or go on a boat tour guided by local fishermen. These tours will also give you the opportunity to explore the Amazon Rainforest and discover the great biodiversity Brazil has to offer.
