This beautiful experience starts in the highlands of Los Quetzales National Park and takes you on an adventure through the mountains of Costa Rica. You’ll spend long days hiking through rugged terrain, getting up close to rare mammals like tapir and birds like the famous quetzal. Each evening you’ll make it to a new community-run lodge where you’ll get treated to typical Tico food and meet local families dedicated to preserving their land and traditional way of life. You’ll finish the route near Manuel Antonio National Park, feeling inspired by nature and the people you’ve met.

We start our trip on the trails of the Quetzales National Park in the right margin of the South American highway. We will begin the tour with a short climb up the path Ojo de Agua, during this tour there is the possibility to observe some species of mammals like the Tapir and Zainos, birds like the Quetzal and the floristic richness of the area.

After walking about three hours to reach the plains of Quetzal where we take the Box Lunch. After resting, start the descent through the community of San Gerardo de Dota to reach Providencia where we spend the night in a friendly atmosphere surrounded by tranquility and hospitality.

Hiking summary: This day hike takes an average of 5 to 6 hours and is approximately 14 kms. The tour begins at an altitude of 2500 meters.

At 6:00 am start hiking among the virgin forest in the heart of the Forest Reserve Los Santos. Both plants and animals in perfect harmony coupled with the scenic beauty of the ideal landscape to observe the birdwatching. The tour begins at an altitude of 1750 meters, continuing a climb up the 1922msnm from this point the descent to 700 meters starts.

Overnight: Hostel Chaqueta is managed by the Mora family; It is a small farm located in the heart of the Santos Forest Reserve, owned by a young couple who are engaged in subsistence agriculture and livestock that have recently begun welcoming travelers.

Hiking summary: The hike takes an average of 8 hours and the route is approximately 17.7 kms by a downward path. Not much shade, completely rural.

The day begins with a delicious breakfast and at 6:30 am we will begin the walk by taking the path toward the mountain lodge in the Community of Rio Piedras Blancas. This small village sits on the basin parallel to the river Savegre. The place is surrounded by majestic mountains covered with evergreen forests where valuable natural resources are located, ideal for enjoying the fresh air.

You'll meet the Granados Elizondo family where we will enjoy a rich typical lunch of the area and a refreshing swim, to continue our adventure by an upward path until Ranchos Tinamú in San Isidro de Dota. Here we'll experience lush vegetation a great biological diversity, and can feel part of the Parra family - known for their authentic Tico hospitality. In the evening you can take a tour to see some of Costa Rica's famous frogs.

Overnight: Ranches Tinamú - A member of the COOPESAVEGRE cooperative, a place where you can experience the tranquility and authenticity of a true Costa Rican cultural project. It offers accommodation for 26 people, rooms have their own bathroom and shared service.

Daily summary: The route is 14 kilometers, with an approximate duration of 6 hours of walking. The tour begins at an altitude of 706 m in Chaqueta, and continues down to approximately 400 meters in Piedras Blancas, and then climb to 840 meters to Rancho Tinamu.

Early we enjoy a delicious breakfast to start the trek from San Isidro de Dota; a typical village and region with an impressive water wealth, descending gravel roads amidst great natural diversity and beautiful views up to the Londres community of Quepos. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy primary and secondary forests and a rich typical lunch in the area.

Daily summary: Duration 6-7 hours on a difficult terrain with a level of decline of 400 meters, 16 kilometers away
