Merlyn Oviedo grew up on the farm that his renowned ecolodge is built on, but after going to Costa Rica's capital San Jose of high school he thought he was done with his father's farm until he was contacted by a pilot youth program taking place in the Osa Peninsula to help develop a new generation of entrepreneurs in the region. Through this program Merlyn brought his vision of enticing conscious travelers to experience truly culturally immersive experience and ways of giving back to the La Palma community he grew up in by building Danta Lodge room by room with his own hands. If you build it, they will come.
"My father (Juvenal Oviedo) has worked in the community as long as I can remember. Now we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to keep up his legacy. At Danta we have groups from schools, high schools, Universities, churches or just people who wants to make a difference. We have helped to paint houses, built desks and chairs for the school, plant trees, teach music skill, build a community center and a lot more. On behave of Danta and Guadalupe I want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS for everyone's work, support and for having had the honor of sharing time with you all."
