Why Lokal Recommends Gecko Villa

Family Business started in 2000| Locally Owned with 100% local staff

A Unique Story

Gecko Villa villa is run by a local Thai family of six (parents and two sets of twins) living in a village not far from the property where they farm rice. The property is located in the rural Northeast of Thailand, historically the poorest region of the country and not frequently visited by travelers. The family built the villa using local materials and help from local villagers. They hope that responsible, sustainable tourism in the area will help to provide a living for villagers and support conservation of the local habitat.

Community Connection

The villa employs local villagers for many jobs and projects to help them earn additional income. Too often, locals from this area must send family members to bigger cities to find work - the income from these jobs helps more local people stay in the Isaan region and helps keep families together.
They also support the local primary school with regular gifts and donations.

Environmental Engagement

In addition to growing organic food on the property to serve guests, Gecko Villa has helped protect and re-forest over 15 acres of land with local, indigenous hardwoods like teak.
