A Unique Story

La Baula Lodge is a family owned rustic lodge. Originally from Monteverde, in the northern side of Costa Rica, the Valverde family has been in tourism business for over 20 years. In the begining, the Valverde family were the owners of a small hotel in the Monteverde area and 3 years ago, they had the oportunity to buy La Baula Lodge, one of the first lodges in the Tortuguero area. The Valverde family welcomes you to Tortuguero and to La Baula Lodge.

Community Connection

La Baula cooperates with community projects (such as the protection of sea turtles), makes contributions to the local school and college, and hires only local employees. They also make a strong effort to educate guests on the importance of conserving Tortuguero and protecting the natural beauty of the area.
