As a model for ecotourism projects, Lapa Rios has been designed to blend in with the surrounding forest and beaches and was built with locally harvested materials. Many of their staff start off in entry level positions but through the on the job training and classroom education they receive from Lapa Rios Lodge, they are able to be promoted to middle or top management positions. Lapa Rios Lodge also strongly supports local education systems in an effort to ensure sustainable growth for future generations.

Environmental Engagement

Lapa Rios Lodge strives to educate their guests, staff, and the local community on the issues impacting the environment and what they can do to protect it. The lodge organizes environmental education excursions for the children from local schools. They also focused on maintaining the architectural integrity of the area and only used sustainable materials to build the lodge. Due to the materials they used to build the lodge, they do not need air conditioning which helps them conserve energy. They have also implemented a strict recycling program and use biodegradable products for their guests and employees.
