A Unique Story

North Sailing – Húsavík Whale Watching was established in 1995 in the town of Húsavík in North Iceland. The first whale watching tour was launched with a small wooden boat, whole lot of excitement, dedication and passion that set the style for every North Sailing journey that followed.
Today, 20 years later, North Sailing – Husavik Whale Watching is recognised as the pioneer of whale watching in Iceland offering authentic and inspirational marine wildlife tours and sailing adventures.

Community Connection

North Sailing helped place the small town of Húsavík on the map as the capital of whale watching in Iceland. Their popularity has brought many benefits and opportunities to the town. This includes their restaurant Gamli Baukur which is located in a renovated old style house by Húsavík harbour.

Environmental Engagement

With 12 tourism awards that highlight North Sailing's committment to sustainability, their company's foundation lays in the preservation of the beautiful Icelandic environment. A few of their awards include: Environmental Award from the Icelandic Tourism Board, World Travel & Tourism Council's Finalist for Tourism for Tomorrow, and a World Responsible Tourism Silver Award!
All of North Sailing's boats are restored, and are now 100% electric - the first whale watching company in the world to do so!
North Sailing also works closely with Husavik Research Center (University of Iceland) and Husavik Whale Museum conducting research on whales. Scientists can often be observed on board the boats, taking samples and collecting data.

Culture

North Sailing is the only whale-watching company in Iceland that offers tours on traditional Icelandic boats. Through these adventures, they're helping preserve the knowledge and responsible handling of traditional Icelandic sailing.
