A Unique Story

Refugios Salkantay is part of a community that works hand in hand with their neighbors. They strongly believe that they should respect each other and live together in harmony with nature like their ancestors did. Their goal is to pass on their traditions and riches while minimizing their impact on the environment and teaching the younger generation that in doing so it is still possible prosper and grow in this competitive world.

Community Connection

The natural environment surrounding Apu Salkantay and its marvelous ancestral traditions are in danger of disappearing due to the introduction of new methods of doing business, transportation and migration of villagers from lack of opportunities. These factors present a threat to the existance of their customs. However, thanks to the participation to this program, they are confident of being able to save their ancestral patrimony and ensure it is passed down to future generations.
