Why Lokal Recommends Sapa O'Chau

Social Enterprise started in 2009| Locally Owned with 100% local staff

A Unique Story

Sapa O'Chau is proud to be the first ethnic minority owned and run international tour operator in Vietnam! This is especially significant in Sapa's ethno-tourism industry.

Shu Tan, a young single mother from the Black Hmong tribe, started the organization with the help of four Australian volunteers. Working together, they funded the first Hmong owned homestay in Sapa and established a socially conscious trekking service. Running on the social enterprise blueprint, Sapa O’Chau put the money earned back into the community through projects such as providing winter clothes to children and improvements to the village schools.

Community Connection

Sapa O’Chau has created over 50 job for members of the local Hmong community that often struggle to find fair work in the tourism industry. Over 35 high school students also get their education through the Sapa O’Chau school.

A network of homestay owners and artisans earn their living by sharing their traditional ways of life with Sapa O’Chau’s guests.
