A Unique Story

Founded in 2006, TAEC collects, preserves, and interprets the traditional arts and lifestyles of the country’s many and diverse ethnic groups. The doors opened in July 2007 with professional exhibitions on the ethnic cultures of Laos, and a museum shop promoting handicrafts from village artisans.

Community Connection

TAEC is a founding member of Fair Trade Laos. They run a comprehensive livelihoods program that supports supplementary income for ~600 producers of traditional Lao handicrafts. They also employ local women to serve as community researchers.

Culture

TAEC exhibitions and handicrafts celebrate the diverse ethnic cultures of Laos. Since 2007, TAEC has produced 11 exhibitions and maintains a collection of over 400 objects from 30 ethnic groups. They also operate a small research library which is open to the public, offer ethnic handicraft workshops and create short videos about Lao culture
