Rancho la Merced

Head out for a horseback ride, hike or cowboy experience through this family-run ranch and National Wildlife Refuge. Rancho la Merced preserves 506 hectares of primary and secondary wet forest, along with pastures mangroves and beach located on the Pacific Coast near Ballena Marine National Park. You can hike on the reserve’s trails to admire the tropical rainforest and mangroves, ride horses down the beach and learn about the ranchers way of life, while supporting them in their mission to protect their land and nature.

Una Storia Unica

Rancho La Merced is owned and managed by a Costa Rican family and has been protected from hunting for many years. They operate a unique working cattle ranch dedicated to the breeding of meat, whose production is in harmony with the ecological balance of tropical rainforest and the surrounding mangroves. They are active member of the Asociacion de Amigos de la Naturaleza del Pacífico Central y Sur (ASANA) and their land is part of the Tapir’s Path Wildlife Corridor.

Rnacho la Merced was awarded with the “Bandera Azul Ecológica” and the Certificación de Sostenibilidad Turística from the Costa Rican Tourism Bureau in recognition of their work to protect their land and local wildlife.
