Incredibly special experience in the heart of the jungle!

This will be one of the best highlights of my year long trip so far. The guides Alfonso and Ricky has so much knowledge to share and were both very proud of their work and always on the search to learn more. It was an honor to get to learn from them. It was so special to walk in the footsteps of the Mayans and see temples left untouched. I felt like a real explorer and part of the jungle.

Magical Experience but Very Tough

El Mirador is hands down worth the effort. Absolute brilliant place and an experience you will never forget. Its a distance to get there, and a tough trek no doubt. The pros, beyond the once in a lifetime experience, included amazing food, showers at the campsites, and a tour of the city. Cons - which could really just be improved by preparing for them, so take this as heads up info - 1. the pace is fast, too fast and can be really intense + leave little room to appreciate the jungle you are trekking through while trying to make sure you don’t smack your foot on nothing, 2. There are no pillows at the campsites and only a single blanket offered - it was FREEZING (mid-feb) by the middle of the night so pack layers and something to support your neck 3. The mats are decent, especially in the first camp site, but tough on the body in the second. All the tents are next to each other dorm style so if you are bothered by snorers, bring ear plugs. Overall its worth the effort but I think a little bit more intense than it needs to be, which I think can take away from the experience, if not prepared for it. So prepare and do it.
