Nature, Community and Spirit of Bali

3 Days | Community Visit, Snorkeling and Cultural Activities

The foundation of Balinese life rests on what is known as the Tri Hita Karana. According to this philosophy, a good life is one that balances one’s relationship with nature, with community, and with one’s spirit. On this adventure you'll get to explore all three. Visit nature’s rice terraces, jungles, rivers, and oceans. Learn about village community life through banjar visits, conversations with local community members, and short community projects. Engage spirituality through activities such as arts workshops, offerings making, observing special ceremonies, and visiting temples. This experience will help you to think about what it means to live a high-quality, healthy and balanced life!

8:30am to 2pm - Visit to Nyambu Village
After getting picked up from the airport (or other location), you'll head to Central Bali. Nyambu is an ancient village with historical artifacts dating back to the 11th Century. We begin our exploration of this village with a village walk where we will sample freshly prepared juice made from local fruits, check out the local markets and shops and rice fields, observe day-to-day village life. We will also encounter the village’s historical temples and learn about the arrival of Hinduism into Bali from Java.
Later, we will enjoy lunch featuring local Balinese food produced and grown at the village, make flower offerings. We will explore Balinese music and learn to play the genders and gongs. We will also try out Balinese dance and learn the subtleties and intricacies of legong and baris.
Finally, we will visit a Balinese family estate and learn the principles of Balinese home design. We conclude the event over traditional storytelling about the history of Nyambu village over coconut drinks.
2pm to 5pm - Drive to West Bali

9am to 10am - Drive to village
10am to 4pm - Experience Agriculture in West Bali
Gumbrih is a small village in Western Bali situated at the mouth of the river. We will visit a collectively owned cacao production site and chocolate factory, check out an organic mushroom, and eat lunch at a fish farm, and learn about the production of virgin coconut oil. We will also visit a local wildlife rescue site and learn about the wildlife of West Bali and their challenges of living in an ever urbanizing and developing environment.
4pm to end of day - Free time and relax

8:30am to 9:30am - Drive to Northwest Bali
9am to 12pm - Coral Restoration at Banyuwedang Bay
In the 1980’s, Balinese villagers made the unfortunate decision to throw dynamite into the sea to catch fish. In the process, they destroyed the fish as well as their habitat—the coral reef. Karang Lestari, a local NGO dedicated to coral protection, teamed up with European scientists to bring a technology to Bali known as Bio-Rock to regrow coral using electricity. We will have the opportunity to learn about the coral restoration project and to snorkel and see the beautiful coral.
12pmto 2pm - Lunch
