Welcome to Cartagena, the colonial heart and soul of Colombia! You will spend the morning exploring the cobblestone streets of the Walled City, visiting the centennial square, and learning about the city that inspired Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
We will leave for Santa Marta in the evening and spend the night at Hotel AC by Marriott.
From Santa Marta we will head through the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and pass Tayrona National Park on the way to the Don Diego River. You will hike in the jungle to float the river which ends at the sea.
We will continue our journey in the afternoon to La Guajira where you will spend the night at Hotel Waya.
We will wake up and head to the Flamingo Natural Reserve where you will see hundreds of wild flamingos near the Tapias and Camarones rivers.
You will hike along the path called 'mainshirutshi' where you will learn about Wayuu culture from the Tocoromana people.
Today we will head to Manaure so you can see Colombia's largest salt complex. You will have a local guide who will explain the process of extracting salt before heading to Uribia, the indigenous capital of Colombia. From Uribia, we will head to Cabo de la Vela and witness where the desert meets the Carribean sea. You will enjoy a beautiful sunset at the lighthouse before heading back to Hotel Waya.
