Guatemala is a country rich in history and culture, with a civilization dating back to 18,000 BC. The Maya civilization, which still influences daily life in Guatemala, can be seen in everything from the local clothing to the numerous archeological sites scattered throughout the country. In addition to its ancient history, Guatemala was also heavily influenced by its colonial past. This can be seen in the country's architecture and culture, which has contributed to its charm and popularity among travelers. But it's not just the history and culture that draws visitors to Guatemala. The country is also known for its stunning natural beauty, with landscapes ranging from dense jungles to beautiful beaches. Whether you're exploring ruins hidden deep in the jungle, admiring the colonial architecture, or simply enjoying the natural beauty, there's something for everyone in Guatemala.

When to visit

It's difficult to say when the best time to visit Guatemala is, as it can depend on a variety of factors, including personal preferences and the specific activities and places you want to visit. However, in general, the dry season, which runs from November to April, is considered the best time to visit, as the weather is generally sunny and dry, making it easier to explore the country's many outdoor attractions. The wet season, which runs from May to October, can also be a good time to visit, but be prepared for rain and potentially disrupted travel plans. It's always a good idea to check the weather forecast and make sure you're prepared for the conditions you'll be encountering during your trip.

What you will be doing

Guatemala offers a wealth of opportunities for travelers to explore its rich Mayan culture, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant cities. Whether you're looking to hike through ancient ruins, kayak on crystal-clear lakes, or go caving in the lush forests, Guatemala has something for everyone. You can also experience the local way of life by staying with a local family or taking a cooking class, or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of a traditional colonial town. With so much to see and do, Guatemala is a destination that offers something for every type of traveler.

Travel Style

Guatemala is a destination that truly comes to life outdoors, with its stunning natural beauty and rich culture. Whether you're a cultural enthusiast looking to learn more about the Mayan people, or an adventurous traveler seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences, Guatemala has something for everyone. Accommodations in the country range from rustic to luxury, so you can choose the travel style that best suits your needs. With its diverse range of attractions and activities, Guatemala is a destination that will satisfy travelers of all kinds.

Best Ways to Get Around

One way to navigate Guatemala is to hire a private or shared driver. For traveling between major tourist destinations, shared vans are a popular option. If you prefer to have more control over your itinerary, a private driver may be the best choice. To visit Tikal, there are daily flights from Guatemala City.

Wonderful cooking class experience

5 star review
Just finished a wonderful cooking class experience. We made pepian a traditional Guatemala dish. Ours was better than the one at the restaurant last night. We did need an interpreter and Pablo was great adding insight plus translating. Great cooking and cultural experience. Highly recommend.

Do you want to know what it is like to live in Guatemala?

5 star review
Staying in Silvia's home and being hosted by the women's cooperative in San Antonio Aguas Caliente was a very unique experience that was conveniently close to Antigua. I recommend it to anyone looking to get out of the tourist bubble and into the real Guatemala. You will also enjoy the attention to cultural detail by participating in their tailored activities and you will have a blast with this group of funny ladies and their families. Highly recommended!

Our Story

Experience the breathtaking beauty and unique biodiversity of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula in our film. Covering just 0.0001% of the planet's surface, this tropical rainforest is home to 2.5% of the world's species. We fell in love with the region when we first visited in 2012, but were shocked to learn that the planned construction of an international airport threatened to destroy its natural beauty forever. Join us on our journey to learn more and help protect this incredible place. Don't miss this amazing film. Watch the full documentary >
