You will be picked up between 8:30-9AM from your hotel and you will be taken in an air-conditioned van to Novo Airao. You will arrive early in the afternoon and you will be given a briefing on the Amazon's biology, history, and the things you may see along the way. After boarding the Jacare-Acu, you will start sailing through the Anavilhanas Archipelago while enjoying your first lunch on board.
In the afternoon, you will be taken on motorized canoes through the islands and lagoons of the archipelago. During your ride, you will be able to see a large amount of birds and other wildlife.
When you return back on the boat, you will be taken to Madada observatory where you be able to see wonderful views of the Rio Negro. After you eat dinner on the boat, you can choose to spend the night either in your cabin or in a hammock at the observatory.
After breakfast, you will go on a three hour hike through the virgin rainforest to Madada Caves and on the way, your guides will give a mini jungle survival course.
You will then visit an Amazonian farmhouse to learn about local customs, farming techniques, and crops. Later in the morning, you will have the opportunity to swim in the Rio Negro.
After lunch on the boat, you will set sail toward the Jau National Park area and try fishing for piranha before sunset. When you return to the boat, you will set sail to Sleepy Beach where you will eat dinner and spend the night.
In the morning you will start sailing towards the Jau National Park Ranger Station and then sail along the Rio Jau. You will be able to see many aquatic mammals and birds in this part of the Amazon.You will then hike to the Samauma, the biggest tree on the Rio Negro.
During the rainy season, you will be able to take canoes through the Park's creeks and admire the Giant Otters. In the dry season, you will explore the Rio Pauini, a tributary filled with boulders and waterfalls.
Next, you will sail to the Cachoeria community where you will for the evening. At night, you will go looking for caiman and other nocturnal animals in canoes.
After breakfast, you will visit the Cachoeria community and learn more about their traditions and local projects. The children of the village enjoy interacting with visitors, so be ready to play soccer, swim, or do arts and crafts. The staff will bring school supplies and they will explain more about their current challenges and existing projects (you will be given more information about what you can bring or how you can help).
When you return to the boat, you will have lunch and sail our of Jau National Park.
You will continue sailing back to Novo Airao. While sailing back, you may have the opportunity to stop and swim with the Pink River Dolphins.
When you return to Novo Airao, you will eat lunch and take a city tour. You will see where they build ships, craftsman, and other attractions in the Amazon River town.
Lastly, an air-conditioned taxi/van will take you to the Manaus airport in the afternoon.
