If you would like to share a unique experience with a local family during your stay in Peru, and love coffee and/or chocolate, then look no further than this tour! You'll visit families in the jungle of Cusco that are members of a local cooperative to learn about the arduous work that goes into coffee or cacao production. Work alongside your hosts for a day and spend the night in a private room on the farm.
The families still practice traditional farming technique, so you'll also learn raising free range guinea pigs, chickens, etc and get to discover different tropical plants like root vegetables, mango, papaya, coca and more.
There are also options to do a day tour (without any lodging) or to do a multi-day tour that continues on to Machu Picchu.
7:45 am - At approximately this hour we will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the bus station.
8:00 am - Head in the direction of the Huayopata zone. We will pass through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you will be able to stop and take in the stellar scenery. The highest point will be Abra Malaga, with an altitude of 4,316 meter (here you will also be able to take some unforgettable pictures). We will also pass through the interesting landscape of the cloud forest.
12:00 pm - Arrival at the farm, where a member of the family will welcome us in with open arms and you will be able to take a brief break.
1:00 pm - Lunch with the family! If you are vegetarian or vegan please let us know so that we can coordinate with the family ahead of time.
2:30 pm - A member of the family will take you around the farm where they will explain their daily chores, the process that coffee or cacao production undergoes, and you will also have the opportunity to try fruit that is in season! After the visit around the farm, you will participate in some traditional coffee or chocolate roasting. You will have the opportunity to prepare your own cup of coffee or hot chocolate from start to finish.
6:00 pm - Dinner with the family which will allow you to get to know them better and sleep in private room on the farm.
7:30 am - Breakfast! (if you would like a different schedule, please coordinate with the family)
9:00 am - After breakfast, you will take a car back to Cusco.
Optional - if you'd like to add a visit to see a 2nd coffee or cacao farm, it's often possible to add it this day. Please ask for availability!
