An alternative way to explore Peru's famous Rainbow Mountains! Instead of joining the line of tourist buses at Vinicunca, explore a local Andean community and hike to the less-visited (but equally spectacular) Palcoyo mountain. You'll make a stop at the Chari community to learn traditional weaving and experience the culture of an Andean community firsthand. Then, you'll go on an alternative hike to Palcoyo - a less-visted (but equally spectacular) part of the Rainbow Mountains. After a good workout on the trails, you'll stop back in the Chari community for traditional lunch meal before making the drive back to Cusco.
Here's the approximate schedule: 6:30AM Pick up from your hotel in Cusco and start heading towawrds Checacupe. 9:00AM Arrival to the Andean community of Chari in Checacupe and receive a welcome by the association of Weavers "Pallay Lliqlla". 10:00AM The Ladies of "Pallay Lliqlla" will serve you a rich breakfast based on local foods. 11:00AM - 2pm Palcoyo mountain hike with local guides 2:30PM Return to Chari again where you will eat a delicious meal prepared by the community members and take part in a weaving experience alongside local women. 4:00PM Return to Cusco, where you will arrive at approximately 6:30PM.
