A Unique Story

The owner, Raul Ccolque, has lived in the Andes all of his life. Since he was 18-years-old he has worked the Inca Trail on every trek to Macchu Picchu, as both a porter and a tour guide. Born and raised in a small village called Seque Raccay, Ccolque attended a Quechuan speaking elementary and high school. He then went on to Cusco University to further his studies in tourism. Growing up in a small Quechuan village ignited his passion for hiking the surrounding mountains and exploring his heritage.

Deep Community Connections

One of Alpaca Expeditions primary goals is to support the local community. They accomplish this by providing jobs and fair wages (and with health and life insurance) to all of their employees, especially their porters who they call the Green Army because they are the heroes of each expedition. They also actively support the building of sustainable schools for Andean kids and help the villages their porters live in. They provide hygienic supplies every three months, as well as computers, books and other educational necessities. We have even brought teachers to their schools.

Active Environmental Stewardship

Alpaca Expeditions goes above and beyond to ensure they leave no trace during each of their tours and has also led numerous projects to sustain the beauty of the Sacred Valley - from trail clean up campaigns to indigenous tree planting projects with local villages.
