Trek Lodge-to-Lodge to Apu Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain

A breathtaking five day trek in the Vilcanota's Cordillera, on a route called the Camino del Apu Ausangate. Along the way, you'll stay in comfortable lodges known as "Tambos" - that are manged by the shepherding communities of the high Andes. You'll hike past pristine waterfalls and glaciers, stunning mountain passes (as high as 16,500 feet!) and natural wonders like the famous "Rainbow Mountain." After days of strenuous hiking, you'll get treated to chef-prepared meals of traditional Peruvian cuisine, private rooms and hot showers. It's a fantastic trip to experience the culture and natural beauty of the Andes.

Treking in the Andes

My husband and I did a fabulous trek to Asungate/Rainbow mountain - 5 days/4 nights. It was incredible! Lovely walks through the valleys, up to a few passes (not super steep, but hard because of the altitude). The lodges were great (though a bit on the cold side - we were the first group to go through, for the season, so none of them had a chance to warm up), lots of hot water for showers, and great food! Plus this whole adventure was made possible all by the local people/community. Highly recommend this trip, though do know you'll be trekking at about 15,000 feet and the lodges are heated only by wood in living room fireplace (bedrooms/bathrooms are cold!)
