Depart from the city of Salta on an adventure to experience the local wine culture and food of the Calchaqui Valley! You'll stay with winemakers and farmers in the region who are part of a community cooperative. They will guide you on hikes, show you the innerworkings of their small scale vineyards and share delicious homemade meals with you. You'll also get to explore the unique desert landscapes of the region and explore the charming town of Cafayate.
Start the day in a shared excursion to Cafayate, crossing the Lerma Valley and the majestic “Quebrada de Las Conchas” (Shell's Gorge), with its striking and colorful rock formations. Next, you'll visit a winery in the village of Cafayate. After, you'll have free time in the village to have lunch and discover the surrounding areas. After, head to the house of one of the families of the “Red de Turismo Campesino” --a Rural community-based Tourism Cooperative that offers homestays and different activities in the heart of the Calchaqui Valley.
On your second day, enjoy connecting with the family and their simple way of life. An interesting cultural exchange can be created by sharing the daily routines, artisanal or agricultural tasks, or just helping to prepare lunch (and learn at the same time). You will have lunch and dinner with the family, while the main activity could potentially be a 3 hour hike, horseback riding, or a workshop to learn some of the traditional skills of the locals (ceramics, loom weaving, etc.)
Take the morning to discover the surroundings of the community. After lunch, transfer to the bus station to return to Salta to continue on to your next adventure!
